In April, I traveled to Harare, Zimbabwe to join my father's medical team of volunteers, Operation of Hope. Over 80 operations were done with my father (Dr. Joseph Clawson), who is in his mid-70's, performing more than half of the procedures. Most of the surgeries were cleft lips and palettes, with a number of deformities included, as he is a head and neck, plastic surgeon.

After a week of exhausting work with screenings, surgeries and recovery, we headed south to play with the animals of
Africa! We swam with elephants, rode horses to get up close to zebras and giraffes, played with baby lions, and followed two lions on their night hunt.
October of this year, my father's team traveled again to Zimbabwe where where they found health services across Zimbabwe collapsing along with the economy.
